Quicken blows.Reviewed by Charles Spidell, 2010-03-03
I've been using Quicken Home and Business 2009 for about a year and
it completely blows. The software is buggy and unreliable. This
software constantly has problems contacting banks, downloading bank
transactions to your accounts, and saving passwords correctly. I
recently tried adding two accounts to Quicken and it keeps telling
me the account passwords are incorrect. I entered them manually and
still keeps reverting to the old passwords. So, when I sign into my
bank account, I have to reset my password because of Quicken's
failed attempts. It refuses to download updates on my personal
savings account. So I have to manually enter new transactions which
is extremely frustrating. If you buy Quicken, get used to seeing
the CC-503 and CC-501 errors when attempting to download
transactions.
As of today, I'm done with Intuit's crappy products. Read the
reviews for yourself, this products blows. Do yourself a favor and
don't buy anything by this company.
avoid quickenReviewed by Big Popsi, 2009-12-03
I have used quicken since the early 90's. Until this newest
iteration it has been easy to use and intuitive. I looked past the
products shortcoming because I was so used to using it. I have
owned my own business for the past seven years and have every
single bit of financial data in quicken. I am now on the prowl to
move to another software. Basically I am a hostage to quicken and
their business practices and non exsistant customer service. It is
not a company I can remotely count on to be a partner to my
business.
Luckily I am close to a new year. I will be starting 2010 with new
software.
Why did I wait so long?Reviewed by Science guy, 2009-10-24
Why, oh, why did I wait so long to start using Quicken? After using MS Money for years, I was forced to find another financial program after Microsoft threw in the towel. I find Quicken to be a much more intuitive and easy to use program. Set up was an absolute breeze. I recommend it highly.
Home & BusinessReviewed by Jo Anna Thompson, 2009-10-12
The print is so small, it is impossible to read.
Trouble with the check numbers. If you activate the alarm system,
then
the next time you try to print a check, the program closes.
Not MS MoneyReviewed by S. Wallace, 2009-10-05
I was a Quicken user way back in the early days, but have been a MS
Money user for the past 10 years (at least through the '99
version). Due to MS dumping the product and my auto downloads
failing to work, I've been forced on to another product (yes, you
can still use MS Money, no, I don't plan to manually download).
Been using Quicken H&B for 2 months now.
After reading about several competing products including some open
source projects, I decided to give Quicken a try. After all, they
make an ok tax program and one would think they could at least
mimic some MS functionality (or other way around). I saw a lot of
negative reviews, but it's hard to tell when the user is the
problem and when it's the software.
Short of it is that I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone.
While it does more or less work, I've found a lot of things that I
just don't like.
1. Stability. I can expect a crash at what appears to be about 20%
of the time (each time being unique sessions). Crash sometimes just
opening. Crash most usually clicking on a tab to change screens
(view a report, see summary, etc). I'm always fearful I'm going to
lose my last 15 minutes of work.
2. If you've used MS Money, prepare to be very disappointed in how
everything overall works. I kind of like the accounts list on the
side (better navigation for that than Money), but everything else
is at least 7 years behind Money.
3. Overall navigation is insane. It just feels like 20 people
worked on each section independently and then tried to fit it all
together with buttons scattered all over every screen. Finding my
way around to simple things is such a pain that I've found I don't
watch things as closely now as I used to with Money.
4. Other nitpicks I won't bother with on how accounts work, the
failure of reconciling downloaded transactions to manually entered
ones...
On the plus side, I purchased the download from Amazon and as usual
it worked great. Installation was a breeze, updated to the R6
version (latest as of this writing) and even tried the MS Money
data transfer utility. Side note - just prepare to lose about
everything you have - the transfer program is not much more than a
joke. I spent enough time trying to fix what it did import that I
finally gave up and deleted all my transactions prior to 2 years
ago.
So... Given the stability of the product alone, I would not
personally purchase this product again, although I will give the
2010 version a try when it comes out and hope for the best. It
takes a lot of effort to set up a financial package, so I was
reluctant to do trials of competitive products, but if 2010 can't
live up to the last version of Money, off I'll go...
